Sotonia Youth is part of Sotonia Cycling Club, one of the largest clubs on the South coast. Based in Southampton, we started coaching in 2015 and are a British Cycling Go-Ride affiliated club. We are focused on developing young riders whether they want to get more out of their riding for fun or want to be competitive aged 6-16. Sessions are run by our nine British Cycling qualified coaches and other volunteer helpers in road, cyclocross and mountain bike disciplines.

Saturday Go-ride Skills Coaching

Go-ride skills coaching sessions are run throughout the year in a traffic free environment to develop the core skills for fun, safe and fast cycling. We concentrate on challenging children as individuals and progressing as a group.

The coaching sessions are 9.30am-11am every Saturday at Southampton Sports Centre on the grass area above the astroturf football pitches and are open to 6-16 year olds, with riders grouped by ability. All riders will need is a well-maintained bike of any variety, and a helmet. Off road tyres are preferable especially during the winter months.

Saturday coaching sessions focus on:

• Core bike handling skills
• Group riding skills• Safety
• Improved riding for recreation or competition
• and most importantly fun!

Sunday Road and Circuit Coaching

We run Sunday morning sessions for club members in the Spring and Summer at South Winchester Park & Ride for ages 9-16. Various groups focus on the skills and fitness required to safely compete in road and circuit racing.

 

Thursday Cyclocross Coaching

Running from May to August, our Cyclocross coaching sessions take place on Thursday evenings at Southampton Sports Centre and are open to our intermediate and advanced members aged 8-16, with riders grouped by ability.

Cyclocross coaching sessions focus on:

• Core cyclocross handling skills
• Fitness and race preparation
• Race simulation and tactics
