Inter-Club 10 mile TT - 2nd May 2017

After the first leg of the Inter-club time trial competition the New Forest CC lead by 61 points to 49.  A change in this year's rules meant that the fastest 6 riders in each club were awarded points from 12 for the fastest rider to 1 for the one in 12th position.  However, an additional 2 points were awarded for every rider under the age of 18, every woman and everyone over the age of 60.  New Forest CC came out on top with the fastest riders, however, Sotonia fielded 5 riders over 60 years of age, 4 women and 1 under 18.  These riders amassed a further 18 points for Sotonia with New Forest CC gaining an additional 12 points with 3 riders over the age of 60 and 3 women.

Good luck in the next round on Thursday, 18th May!

Club 10 mile TT - P140 - 20 April 2017

Sotonia's first evening 10 mile TT on the popular Romsey course did not attract as many entrants as would normally be expected.  It was a dark evening with rain in the air, however, it stayed dry for the event and some good times were recorded for the "long" 10 mile course (actually 17km!).  Results as follows:

A note from the timekeepers:

Six riders failed to call their numbers when finishing. Unless you call your number, we cannot always identify you, especially if several riders arrive close together! We cannot, especially if inside the car as last night, due to the weather, always identify numbers UNLESS YOU CALL OUT please !!!

Fonthill 120km - 9 April 2017

Starting from Carlo's Ices and Tea Rooms the riders headed across the New Forest to Fordingbridge, then west out to Cranborne and north through Donhead St Andrew returing via Wilton, Old Sarum, Pitton and Lockerley.

The (touristic) high point of the route was the road that leads past a long, narrow lake on the Fonthill estate and through a rather splendid stone arch, which also marks the start of the return leg eastward.   The weather was, indeed, glorious: those of you who came in early reported temperatures of 21 degrees; the Silver riders had readings of 24 and even 26 on their Garmin thermometers.

There was some question as to what constitutes a "hill." For me there was a long, comfortable ascent from Sixpenny Handley plus two briefer bumps: into Newtown and out of Pitton, the latter measuring 14% on the Richter scale.

Annual Club Awards and Social Evening - 11th February 2017

Saturday, 11th February 2017
7pm for 7.30pm

The Railway Institute, Romsey Road, Eastleigh, SO50 9FE
(free parking, train and bus stations are all close by)

In a change from the usual sit down dinner event, the forthcoming Awards Evening will be a more informal social occasion.  We're hoping that the new format will attract a large proportion of Sotonia's 300 plus members to come along, celebrate the achievements of club members and have some fun!

  • Finger Buffet
  • Bar at club prices
  • The CaT Challenge (nothing to do with felines)
  • Guest speaker
  • Prize draw
  • Anything else we think of before the night

Bookings for Sotonia's answer to the Oscars (but with shorter acceptance speeches and less wardrobe malfunctions (hopefully)) are now being taken at the ludicrously cheap price of just £10!

Bring your spouse, partner, parent, significant other to (possibly) the social event of 2017!
